Putting your best foot forward applies to business as well as dating. When it comes to Tinder it’s all about picking the right profile pictures that ‘convert’, as we would say in the sales & marketing world, and of course writing good ‘copy’, i.e. having a brief but persuasive description about yourself that highlights your qualities and personality.
That is almost one-to-one what you do when you write a sales page for a new product launch.
The Elevator Pitch
After I get matched up with potential future girlfriends the conversations tend to be very similar. I would say I have almost perfected my ‘elevator pitch’ when it comes to the question ‘what do you do for a living? My answer tends to be the same every time. ‘I work in banking but I also have a side hustle that I am very passionate about. I am building a personal finance education platform to empower millennials to successfully manage their finances.’
As an entrepreneur it is key that you can describe your business in one or two sentences and that you have your elevator pitch ready to fire off at all times. The repetition of talking about yourself and what you do you learn on Tinder rather quickly.
In the last two weeks I went on three, let’s just call them ‘sub-par’, Tinder dates. Two of the women did not like on their pictures and with the third I just had no connection whatsoever. Unfortunately, these are rather common occurrences with it comes to Tinder and online dating in general. But it’s not all doom and gloom when it comes to Tinder. I have met my ex-girlfriend on Tinder, who dated her for over a year, and have met several other amazing women who I had shorter but also very enjoyable interactions with.
Both with (Tinder) dating and business, tenacity and perseverance are key. You push through the bad times to get to the good. Tinder has definitely taught me that.
If You Don’t Close The Deal You Might Find A Joint Venture Instead
About two months ago I was matched up with an attractive girl, a few years younger than me and physically very much my type. After a bit of flirting and initial chit-chat via the messaging app it turned out she is a devoted Christian and was looking for someone who shares her faith. I was immediately honest and told her that’s not me but she mentioned that she works in media and does film production on the side. As I was looking for someone to produce my video content my new project I inquired how much it would cost and if this is something that she can do. About a month after that conversation I stood in her studio in front of the camera and we were shooting promo videos.
In business, as with Tinder, you never know who you will meet and what impact they will have on your life or business. So keep an open mind.
